Sometimes as I read my students' writing, I wonder why I bothered learning to read.

I love Gunsmoke.
They are probably writing papers in email and text messaging shorthand. It certainly would hide their ignorance of spelling and grammer.
I just wonder what the long term effects will be on grammer and spelling because of email, blogs, and text messaging, especially as secondary schools educate "worser" and "worser".

What's really funny, Tony, is when I get an email written as a text message from someone who forgets to sign his or her name or signs only a first name (I have 95 students and several duplicate names--last semester I had seven Katies!)
You're right JB. At least with the blogs I get to read some right writin'!
Do your students write test essays by hand? I remember we used to use "blue books" in the madrassa. I'd imagine that with all the technological advances, poor penmanship would only compound the wrong-writin' problem. I'm so accustomed to typing now that I can barely write my own name anymore. I think I need a Big Chief tablet ...
I'm so glad we don't have to use blue books, Mugsy! If I had to decifer their handwriting too, I'd go nuts! (I do remember using the blue book when I took exams, though.)
