What Happened to Christian Radio?

It has been my habit for quite a while to listen to public radio in the afternoons on my way home from work, but with my new schedule this semester, I go home too early to listen to the NPR news. So this afternoon I decided to turn on Christian radio and maybe hear one of those bible question and answer shows. However, to my dismay, I found that on one Christian station a woman was talking about the United States' economy. On another station another lady was talking about immigration. And on another station a man was talking about the importance of having a clean colon.

Whatever happened to talking about Jesus on Christian radio?

OK, perhaps that is a stretch ...

Well, he did say what comes out of you is what makes you unclean.

I gave up on Christian radio long ago. When it wasn't nearly that bad. Sad.

WAY FM is strictly music and used to not be so bad. But it has a lot of Christian bands who play contemporary styles, including some modern country sounds, that I do not like.

Radio in general: what ever happened to songs with a melody, a hook, an identifying riff. I like hard rock (among many other styles) and I am saying this.

I don't listen to Christian music at all, but I can imagine that it suffers from the same malady as most popular music. The music companies only want to produce albums from people who have a "sexy" image, no matter whether or not that person can sing. By "sexy" I mean anything that is sensationalized.

The trick is to revamp the copyrighting laws.

Copyright was never meant to be used the way it is now. All it does is promote bad art. Producers create songs that they know will sell, for whatever reason, no matter if the "artist" is any good or not, and then play it every hour on the radio. They make loads of money on royalties, and the artists make nearly zilch.

The best thing you can do is take advantage of every artist who gives away their music, and make sure to go see smaller bands/groups when they are on tour. That's how they make their money anyway. And if we could download anything for free, people would still pay for concerts. And only good art would be produced, cause investors would only put money in people who can perform live, and there's no longer incentive to put over produced garbage on the radio.
