Things that make you go hmmm.

Yesterday Husband and I received a notice from the Internal Revenue Service that we may be receiving a tax rebate check from the government. The letter was very vague, and it didn't say much more than what we have been hearing on the news for the past several weeks. Husband and I just shook our heads and wondered how much money our government has just wasted sending out letters to everyone who may get a check.

According to a Newsweek article, the cost to send a letter out to approximately 130 million households is 41.8 million dollars.

Nearly $42 million to tell us something that anyone who has been even remotely near a television or radio for the past month has already heard about.

There are so many things I could say right now, but I think just shaking my head will suffice.

I suppose they were afraid it would make people mad if they got an unexpected check in the mail.

I will shake my head with you--42 million is a lot of money!

This kind of thing drives me nuts. Which adults in DC are thinking this is a good idea? Do they manage their personal finances this way?

I got the same letter this weekend, which seemed odd, considering my run-ins with the IRS.

Only in the minds of Washington politicians is $42 million not a lot of money. Do you know how many rawhide bones they could have bought with that?

You're right, Mugsy. To politicians, $42 million is pocket change.

I wish they'd throw me some of their pocket change.

Good grief JMG, Bush just did throw some your way with the extra bit of tax rebate that will fix all economic woes. What more do you want? :-)

Well it won't solve the $1 billion a day war spending economic woes.

Tony, those politicians sure can switch hats awfully fast. If I were to complain that $600 is pocket change, they'd holler about how greedy I am.

You just can't win.
