Equal Time

If Fred Thompson really does run for President, should NBC give all the other candidates the same amount of time that Thompson gets in his role on Law and Order?

Not as long as his character doesn't make political comments about his campaign or the other candidates.

As long as he doesn't use it as a bully pulpit, then NBC has no obligation. They are free to choose their programming and how they run their business.

That is my opinion anyway.

Plus Obama, Hillary and the other public candidates are getting plenty of free press too. It evens out.

If so, Hillary Clinton should definitely play a Southern black woman. Her accent in Selma sounded so authentic.

That's funny, Mugsy! (I like your hat.)

Tony, I agree that NBC shouldn't have to provide equal time to other candidates. However, lots of shallow people will see Thompson in his TV role and vote for him because they like the character he portrays. They'll project the characteristics of that character onto Thompson himself, which may or may not be accurate.

Maybe all the rest of the candidates need to take acting lessons so he won't have an advantage over them.

I personally like Mr. Thompson. He used to sit behind me at Vandy football games, and he was always very nice. He seemed geniune and down to earth. I liked his record in politics too.

One thing for sure if he were to get elected, we would have President that sounds and acts like a President. Shallow reasoning but an improvement none the less.

Yeah, he could put those acting skills to use and fool a lot of people if need be.

I personally think Mr Thompson has much more character than that. He is one that you may disagree with his opinions or stances but you can trust him to be honest and consistent. I believe his record shows that to be true.

Another plus for him is that he is respected by all the other elected officials in both parties. He would have good dialogue with the Senate and the Congress.

Hillary I think would have an up-hill battle garnering support from the Republicans. I don't think that would be good. One tendency she shows is that she can be just as stubborn Bush. Rarely a good thing as a President. I can see her being just as defensive and obstinate as Bush gets when he gets trapped. And that trait is ruining this nation.

I was being cynical--which actually is my normal attitude about politics these days. I don't really remember that much about his senate career or his politics.

I do know that Thompson doesn't like to be told to stand up straight when he's having his picture made. A young woman I worked with once had the opportunity to be the photographer at a function that Thompson was appearing at here in town back when he was running for senate. She was trying to get the best photo, and when she asked him to stand up straight, he said, "You're a bossy little thang aren't you."

That's funny. Maybe he was flirting.

I don't doubt it.
