I just gave away a coffee maker that I no longer use. Instead of it sitting in my closet taking up space, it will now serve someone who can use it.
I have been asking God for help in simplifying, and I think this is a good way to start. Freecycle is a network of groups that allows people to post items to give away. I posted my coffee maker as sort of a test to see how well this works, and within just a few hours I had four people wanting it. A lady just left my house--she drove all the way from town to pick it up.
If you don't want to fool with trying to sell stuff, and you don't care who gets your stuff or for what reason they get it, you might want to try this.
You clean out your closet, and somebody comes and gets the stuff! What a concept!

JMG, I love the spirit you are showing. My wife and I have been undergoing a similiar attitude adjustment over the last 2 years of moving to simplicity and freedom from materialism.
BTW, I don't think your blogs are self-serving and they don't read that way. We must share our journeys so that we can grow and mature. Please keep sharing your faith issues and changes to your lifestyle.

Y'all just pray that the attitude sticks!
I love freecycle! It's so cool to give stuff away. It seems to really bless the giver and the getter. Did you meet the woman that came to pick up your stuff? I've usually just left mine in a box on the front porch.
BTW, this is wellwoman...just to lazy to log out and log back in under the blog I usually use.
Hi Layla/ww. Yes I did meet the lady who came to get the coffee pot. She was with her husband who was recovering from a stroke. They had been out walking on the greenway as part of his exercise.
