March to Justice?

How can a man be charged with the murder of his wife and abuse of a corpse when no corpse has ever been found, and no evidence of foul play had been discovered?

Is there a specific case you are speaking about? It sounds like a hard case to prove to me. Then, people get emotional and want someone blamed. Our legal system can be scary.

Yeah, this is a Nashville case. The woman went missing about 10 years ago, and husband was the prime suspect. However, no one could prove anything because there was no body and no evidence of a murder. Now the police say they have enough evidence to arrest him (they won't say what it is), but they still don't have a body.

CBS's "48 Hours" did a story on it:

There are a lot of coincidences that make him look guilty, but I've always heard that you can't base a case on stuff like that. I don't know. I'm just not sure it's right to accuse someone of murder when there's no corpse to prove it. If that's the case, then the police can just assume that anyone who disappears is murdered and try to pin it on someone.

This makes me wonder what will happen in the Natalee Holloway case. She is still "missing" no proof that she is dead or alive. I can't imagine how painful this is for her parents. :(

I have always heard it is almost impossible to prove murder without a body.

Thanks for the tips. I'm working on the website for my classes now.

I can't believe school starts in a little over three weeks.

I'm a criminal lawyer, so I can chime in here. Having a body is not necessary to establish a murder case. The State merely has to prove that the defendant knowingly killed another person. A body certainly helps, but like a murder weapon, it isn't fatal, so to speak, if it is missing.
For example, say the cops got a search warrant for where March used to live with the alleged victim. Say they used laminol to locate the presence of the victim's blood on the walls, which can be done nowadays, no matter how thoroughly the walls are cleaned. Get a medical expert to testify that the loss of that much blood would have killed the victim. Prove that March did it, and you've made the case.
I'm very interested to see what the prosecution has that we don't know about, because there has to be something.
Also, General Thurman is an excellent lawyer. He would not have brought the charges and risked jeopardy attaching if he didn't really believe that he could make the case.

Thanks for the insight, Preston. I'm interested to see what the evidence is as well. If he did it, he's done an awfully good job of covering it up for this long.
