It is certainly the most over-reactive administration I have seen.
This administration continues to take drastic actions that cost billions or infringe on what we believed to be basics rights in the US, yet these actions have little real consequence in achieving their goal. But they certainly achieve undesired goals.
The sad truth is that despite Bush's rhetoric of strength and resolve, in hindsight he is one of the weakest Presidents we have had. If you look at the original intent claims of the 9/11 terrorists, they have accomplished their goals.
They have made major changes to the daily lives of Americans; they have caused major damage through the trillions of dollars of cost associated with the war, fight on terrorism, Homeland security, etc. much of which we have failed at so the money is wasted; they have instilled fear and paranoia in the American public and this has been aided by our own gov't.
I am not trying to bash Bush, be unpatriotic, or anything else negative. I am just stating facts as I see them. If we turn a blind eye to these facts, despite the shame and embarassment involved, they will just continue to worsen.
Being a strong leader of a nation is much more than willingness to execute mass retalitory force and to spend trillions of dollars to do so.
We are in desparate need of true, strong leadership. And Bush is not solely to blame. Consertative Christians elected him, and our elected "leaders" in the Congress and Senate have enabled him. This cannot be laid solely on Bush's shoulders.
These "signing statements" fly in the face of the separation of powers, and yet I don't hear any lawmakers mounting a serious challenge. It is disgusting what is being done to the Constitution.
Bush's signing statements are definitely a show of arrogance and complete disregard of the intention of the law. Tony and Mugsy, I agree with both of you that our legislators are just as much to blame for not kicking up a fuss about it.

Now, more than ever, we need a canine theocracy.
By the way, are you happy with the new version of Blogger? I'm a bit leery of switching.
